Word Bewteen Us

Every story echoes differently in every reader. In this space, the page is no longer printed, but lived—through memory, emotion, and conversation. Here, you are invited to respond: to speak to the heroines who shaped you, to reflect on how your gaze has changed, or to imagine the stories still waiting to be written. Write her a letter. Cast a vote. Name your own protagonist. Because the story of feminism in fiction does not end with the last chapter—it continues every time we read, rethink, and rewrite.

I think this website, overall, is an excellent place to share opinions about the rise of feminism in web novels. I don't read web novels anymore, but I know that many Chinese TV shows are now filmed based on these novels. From what I've seen, there has been a fundamental shift in the perspective of storytelling. With more women writers presenting stories and realities that have always existed but were neglected by a patriarchal society, we have come to realize that our voices do matter. This, in turn, helps shape future generations toward better gender equality.

Congratulations! I really like this website and the topic it tries to convey. Literature, especially female literature, it's more than the record of female experience, it witnesses the female consciousness awakening and social change. From the "She" who was written to the "She" who took the initiative to write her own destiny, female literature is constantly developing and expanding the world of women. Power!!!🙌🙌🙌

I like your website. I think it makes sense, cuz the environment is changing, the characters in the fictions definitely need to change in the same way, otherwise people won't read it. thank you for sharing your own story. Hope we can have more details about you an female's experiences!

I think this is a process in which a woman's perception and judgment of the world changes with age. From the curiosity for relationships in adolescence, to the focus on self-development and the search for self-worth in adulthood. Of course, this does not rule out the influence of today's society's high attention to women seeking their own value.

Insightful research and some comments

Your research is very insightful and clearly illustrates the historical dynamics of females in Chinese internet novels. There are few questions in my mind: 1) How do you pick up the typical novel in different periods? The time your research covers is very long, so how are you staging for this time period? 2) Actually, the changing thing is not just the content or plots but also the classification in the different websites, like 起点 and 红袖. Therefore, do females possess different characters in different categories, such as female novels and male novels? Whether it changed based on different genres? 3) Can we view these changes as the results of market differentiation rather than the growth of feminism in China?

Actually I think the development of femenism in Chinese web fiction is pretty obvious according to the main content changed. For instance, previously, web fictions targeted at female readers would pay more attention to the emotional entanglements between the female protagonist, the male protagonist and other men in terms of content. In contrast, friendships and family ties related to the female protagonist were neglected. During the reading process, these relationships seemed more like tools to advance the love story between the male and female protagonists. However, nowadays popular web fictions tend to focus on the personal growth of the female protagonist as the main content. The female protagonist is no longer depicted as someone who cannot live without a man.
